THE dangers of social networking have been laid bare.

And it’s not easy reading.

Sites like Facebook are meant to be there to help friends keep in touch with each other.

But violent criminals and sex offenders are all too often using them to befriend unsuspecting children.

They hide behind fake profiles, pretending to be someone they’re not.

And, as in the case of tragic teen Ashleigh Hall, it can lead to deadly consequences.

These websites must tighten their security and bosses need to ensure social networkers are exactly who they say they are.

If that means forcing people to provide full details about themselves when they sign up, then so be it.

The law-abiding majority will happily do this if it means Facebook is safe.

Abuse of the web cannot be allowed to continue. Otherwise the evil elements of society will carry on taking advantage.

And there will be more blood shed.
