TOURISTS flocking to London to buy its handbags and scarves have failed to prevent profits slumping at Burberry.


The upmarket fashion house, whose ad campaign is fronted by Harry Potter actress Emma Watson revealed a 19.6% drop in pre-tax profi t to £78 million.

The six-month figures to the end of September were caused by price cuts and a 23% dive in wholesale orders.

Its cost-cutting programme also cost it £4.2million.

Finance director Stacey Cartwright was encouraged by a 6% sales rise to £572 m in the period.
